Seeking to minimise our impact of the environment
Hyster is part of the NMHG family, a leading global manufacturer of Materials Handling Equipment, and as such recognises its Environmental, Health and Safety responsibilities. We see opportunities to contribute to local communities and environmental sustainability, and seek to minimise our impact on the environment.
We are active in measuring, implementing and improving our processes to continually create smarter manufacturing and corporate processes. Green initiatives are run throughout Hyster, with Product Development and Manufacturing being the two areas capable of yielding the greatest environmental opportunities.
Product Development
- We have invested in product design, adopting energy efficient AC motor and control technology
- We produce lift trucks that operate on cleaner-burning alternative fuels
- Innovative design has led to the creation of transmissions that reduce tyre and brake wear in IC trucks
- Our electric trucks recapture energy during braking and lowering of loads – allowing the energy to be reused and reducing the overall energy consumption.
- Innovative engineering including weight reduction, drive train efficiency (patents pending) and hydraulic efficiency reduces the non productive energy used.
Manufacturing/Operations
- We began using low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paints 10 years ago
- We have also introduced powder coating operations, with the intention of eliminating Volatile Organic Compound and waste
- As part of our energy consumption management we monitor our electrical and natural gas usage
- To reduce energy consumption we use energy efficient LED task and overhead lighting, and use sensors to eliminate unneeded energy consumption.
- We also have initiatives to re-use energy created during the manufacturing processes.
