Double FLTA Award Nomination for Hyster Tyre Saving Technology

Hyster nominated in both the innovation and environmental categories

Hyster Empty Container Handler
Hyster tyre saving technology has been nominated in both the innovation and environmental categories of the Fork Lift Truck Association Awards for Excellence 2011. The technology, now available on Hyster Empty Container Handlers, significantly reduces the cost of operation and reduces waste.
“Hyster tyre saving technology is a major breakthrough in empty container handler design and no other manufacturer can offer it in Europe yet” explains Antoon Cooijmans, product manager for Hyster Big Trucks.

Tyre wear can now be reduced by as much as an anticipated factor of 3 for the front (drive axle) tyres on the latest Hyster 5-8 high Empty Container Handlers as the typical conical wear of ‘fixed’ twin-tyre sets is eliminated. The new ‘tyre saving’ drive axle significantly reduces the overall cost of running empty container handling operations and has been nominated in both the innovation and environmental categories at the Fork Lift Truck Association Awards for Excellence 2011, the UK's most prestigious fork lift truck awards.

Cooijmans goes on to explain that the differential is mounted in the wheel ends at each side of the axle, an innovation that allows the wheels to rotate independently, greatly helping to minimise tyre scrubbing.

“Tyre changes on large container handlers are not only costly but can be time consuming too, as the truck will usually have to return to the workshop, so fewer tyre changes results in less downtime” concludes Cooijmans. “Less rubber waste means a better environmental footprint, particularly when combined with up to 15% fuel savings which can be achieved when using Hyster Big Trucks which feature the newly introduced Tier 4 Interim / Stage IIIB compliant engines.”

The FLTA Awards for Excellence take place on February 12th 2011 in Birmingham where the winners will be announced and presented with a coveted “Archie” statuette. Voting has already started at http://www.fork-truck.org.uk/voting-card and is open to anyone interested in the materials handling industry.
