Hyster Company announces its selection by the Sustainable Energy Council (SEC) as one of four finalists in the industrial application category of the World Hydrogen 2023 Awards, presented to a company that has made positive contributions to the use of hydrogen and its industrial application over the previous year. Hyster is in the running for this award for designing and manufacturing the world’s first top-pick container handler powered by hydrogen fuel cells (HFC), which is currently being piloted at the Fenix Marine Services terminal at the Port of Los Angeles.

Hyster Company announces testing of a top-pick container handler powered by hydrogen fuel cells (HFC) at Fenix Marine Services in the Port of Los Angeles. Building on the industry standard Hyster® H1050-1150XD-CH top-pick container handler design, the truck is powered by two 45kw hydrogen fuel cells from Nuvera, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyster parent company Hyster-Yale Group. A California Climate Investments grant awarded by the California Air Resources Board in 2018 helped support development of the HFC-powered container handler.

Hyster Company announces that two of its forklift models have been voted as top products of 2022 by readers of Material Handling Product News and MaterialHandling247.com. The J230-360XD36/48 was voted the year’s top lift truck and accessories product, while the H40-70A was elected the year’s best ergonomics and safety product.

Hyster announces a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to provide Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) with two Hyster® electric container handling vehicles, including the first-ever empty container handler powered by fuel cell technology in a real-world application. In addition, this will be the first Hyster terminal tractor supplied in Europe. Both units will be powered by Nuvera® fuel cells and run on hydrogen fuel produced locally at the HHLA Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub.

Hyster® Company, a leading global provider of container handling solutions, has developed and shipped a hydrogen fuel cell ReachStacker for a pilot at the Port of Valencia in Spain. This Hyster® ReachStacker is an innovative zero-emission solution that uses a Nuvera® Fuel Cell Engine to convert hydrogen into electricity.

Electrification Grants and Incentives

Taking advantage of the various available grant and incentive programs can help offset the cost of acquisition of an electric truck/fleet, chargers and even infrastructure upgrades. Programs and availability will vary by state, but resources are available to help make the conversion to electric possible.

  • State and federal administered grants including the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Program and the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust
  • Tax incentives including Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credits
  • Carbon offset credits
