Hyster Reaction™

5 ways Hyster Reaction™ can support your demanding forklift operations

In many intense indoor forklift operations, mitigating lift truck incidents, safety violations, and operational downtime is a priority. To support operator best practices in tough and demanding applications, businesses can now choose Hyster Reaction™, a new lift truck operator assistance system (OAS).

This advanced system is available on selected Hyster® models and offers different detection configurations to meet the tough requirements of your particular application. Here are five of the ways it can support your lift truck operations.

1.     Limit speed with forklift proximity sensors

With Hyster Reaction, the lift truck’s travel speed is automatically limited when approaching pedestrians and equipment or according to location-specific rules. For example, when lift trucks approach a four-way cross or designated pedestrian zone. Local or real-time location technologies use tags to detect trucks, pedestrians, and beacons, helping inform performance controls. Ultra-wide band 360° technology is used to detect tagged equipment, adjusting lift truck performance, and giving operators additional time to react.

Object detection with two-dimensional LiDAR technology also monitors and detects trucks, pedestrians, and obstacles in the path of travel, including those not connected to proximity tags. The system again adjusts truck performance using advanced traction controls, so operators have increased reaction time.

2.     Improve load stability with hydraulic function control

Hyster Reaction continuously gathers inputs from the multiple detection technologies to implement performance adjustments to travel speed and acceleration. It also uses these inputs to adjust the forklift’s hydraulic functions, including lift, lower and tilt. This helps improve load stability and helps reduce the risk of tipping and load slipping. It includes an overload arrest function to prevent operators moving loads that exceed specified weight thresholds.

3.     Support forklift operator awareness with dynamic alerts

When Hyster Reaction detects a pedestrian or obstacle in the path of travel, a location-based speed limit, or other condition, it triggers an alert. This supports operator awareness and provides additional reaction time. The Hyster Reaction package also includes a secondary touchscreen, fitted to the truck to provide operators with clear status information and visual alerts. From load height and weight, and tilt and steer angle, to speed limit or time and performance settings.

4.     Safeguard productivity in your forklift operation

Hyster Reaction offers a robust solution that can help safeguard productivity as well as supporting site safety processes. The forklift operator assist system keeps the operator in ultimate control of the truck while employing a range of equipment performance controls that adapt based on location, equipment-specific thresholds, and proximity to obstacles or pedestrians to proactively adjust truck performance. With proper lift truck operation, there are fewer obstacles to operational productivity.

5.     Strengthen safety initiatives for your forklift operators

Coupled with correct training, Hyster Reaction can be a useful tool in reducing risks and reinforcing safety initiatives. Consolidating these technologies, controls, and features into one package enables sites operating lift trucks to benefit from a single, robust solution, adaptable and scalable for their specific application needs.
