Reverse Speed System

New Hyster® solution supports operators when reversing

Although it is preferable to drive a lift truck forwards, sometimes large loads will limit forward visibility, making reversing operations unavoidable. To support the needs of specific applications and their forklift operators, businesses ordering selected Hyster® electric lift trucks can now choose the new Reverse Speed System option.

What does the Reverse Speed System do?

The Reverse Speed System, uniquely available to Hyster (patent pending), places a sensor next to the rear drive handle on the lift truck. This sensor can detect if there is a hand placed on the handle. If there is, it will allow the lift truck to reach full reverse speed. If the sensor is not activated, the reverse speed is limited to 2km/h.

Holding the handle encourages the operator to look in the direction of travel while reversing, as is standard practice. This is important for keeping the forklift clear of pedestrians and other objects that may be in the path of travel.

What are the benefits of the Reverse Speed System

The solution helps enforce good operator habits during reversing, encouraging operators to hold the rear drive handle as intended. This helps prevent corner-cutting, even where operators may be under time pressures. It helps balance productivity with correct lift truck operation.

Materials handling operations in various tough industries find operator assistance add-ons useful for meeting specific application needs. However, the Reverse Speed System may be particularly attractive to those intense operating environments which rely on high numbers of temporary or agency staff. It provides support in maintaining best practice among operators who may have different experience. This in turn may help businesses to reduce risk or damage in their forklift operations.

Reverse Speed Limitation for Hyster Electric Forklifts

The new solution can be factory fitted to three- and four-wheel Hyster electric lift trucks for lifts up to 5.5 tonnes, including the following series:

-        J1.5-2.0XNT three-wheel electric forklifts

-        J1.6-2.0XN four-wheel electric forklifts

-        J2.2–3.5XN four-wheel electric forklifts

-        J4.0-5.5XN four-wheel electric forklifts
