OPERATOR ASSIST SOLUTIONS FAQs

Straight answers on how Hyster tools and tech can help you protect your crew and make your materials handling operation more productive.

What lift truck features are operator assist solutions?

Our operator assist solutions fall into three categories — data insights and controls, awareness aids, and active alerts and interventions — each backing up operators in its own way. Insights and controls inform operators and managers, feeding them data from their lift trucks to shape operator and fleet management decisions. Awareness aids help operators see and be seen, increasing visibility and boosting confidence in every move. Active alerts and interventions respond to inputs from the operating environment and alert operators or even step in to assist operators when they sense a risk, dynamically changing truck behavior to help avoid impacts.

Will lift truck performance suffer from active interventions to avoid obstacles?

No. Active operator assist solutions are tuned to stand guard without stalling output. When sensors spot a hazard, the solution may ease forklift speed, make stability adjustments or tweak other aspects of the truck’s operation to help the operator steer clear of a problem. But after the threat clears, the truck steadily returns to normal performance. Far from slowing the line, smart interventions help reduce accident risks and unplanned downtime.

Can operator assist solutions allow lift trucks to push beyond rated load capacity?

No. Operator assist solutions do not allow lift trucks to operate beyond their rated capacity.  Capacity ratings are fixed engineering limits meant to protect operators, loads and equipment. These solutions help to manage truck handling within the truck’s specified limits.

Are operator assist solutions compatible with all working environments in different industries?

Select operator assist solutions are for use in indoor facilities, not outdoors. But because operator assist solutions comprise a versatile toolset, the options cover a broad range of operating temperatures and include solutions that are resilient in outdoor work environments. For example, operator assist solutions such as cameras, white-noise backup alarms and container protection systems are increasingly popular even in the ports and terminals industry, where rugged, outdoor work is common. Your local Hyster® dealer can assess your operation and help you decide on the operator assist solutions that are best fit for your work site and applications.

Are operator assist solutions available on all forklift and container handler models?

Not every operator assist solution is available on or compatible with every forklift or container handler model offered. Some operator assist solutions require part makeups — such as e-hydraulics, steering angle sensors or counterweights — that are specific to certain lift truck classes, power sources or models. For example, trucks without masts can’t be equipped with high-lift load tilt control. However, many of these solutions are available for a wide range of Hyster lift trucks. Your local dealer can review your fleet and equipment purchase plans and give you information about all of your operator assist options.

How expensive are operator assist solutions?

Operator assist solutions comprise a wide range of stackable, scalable tools and technologies. Prices vary based on the type of solution you choose, meaning your total cost depends on what level of operator assistance is right for your operation. For example, standard features are often factory-installed and built to handle everyday duty. Advanced options, such as impact lockout, inactivity shutdown, speed control, stability management, collision avoidance and location-based rules are selective add-ons for more demanding environments.
